What are Generics? A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, how it is taken, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name and works the same way in the body in the same amount of time.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is the generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (e.g. different shape or color), as trademark laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to invent a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name drug and sell it at substantial discounts.

Aspirin Description

Aspirin is an analgesic used to treat pain and fever, to relieve pain and inflammation associated with arthritis and other inflammatory conditions, to prevent clots from forming in blood vessels, and to prevent heart attacks and strokes. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Aspirin Directions

Use Aspirin exactly as directed on the package, unless instructed differently by your doctor. TAKE ASPIRIN with food or a large glass of milk to reduce stomach irritation. Take Aspirin with a full glass of water (8oz./240ml). Do not lie down for 30 minutes after taking Aspirin. STORE ASPIRIN at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF ASPIRIN and you are using it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Aspirin Cautions

DO NOT TAKE ASPIRIN if you have had any unusual or allergic reaction to aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, or any other medicine used to treat pain, fever, swelling, or arthritis. IF YOU ARE TAKING ASPIRIN FOR PAIN OR FEVER and your symptoms do not improve within a few days or if they become worse, check with your doctor. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL SURGERY OR EMERGENCY TREATMENT, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking Aspirin. DO NOT GIVE ASPIRIN TO A CHILD OR TEENAGER who has chickenpox, the flu, or another viral infection. Use of Aspirin for treating the symptoms of a viral infection may cause a serious illness called Reye's syndrome. ALCOHOL WARNING: If you consume 3 or more alcoholic drinks every day, ask your doctor whether you should take Aspirin or other pain relievers/fever reducers. Aspirin may cause stomach bleeding. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. This includes medicines containing aspirin or salicylate. IF YOU ARE IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS OF YOUR PREGNANCY, do not take aspirin without first discussing it with your doctor.
