Bondronat Description
Bondronat is used in people with cancer whose cancer has spread to their bones.
People who have cancer that has spread to their bones are prone to getting pain, fractures or high calcium levels in their blood. Bondronat can help to prevent some of the symptoms of having cancer that has spread to the bones by reducing some of the effects that the cancer has on the bones.
Bondronat Directions
It is very important that you take Bondronat correctly as it may lead to oesophageal problems if it is not taken in the right way. A member of your medical team will explain to you how to take Bondronat.
Do not share your medicine with other people. It may not be suitable for them and may harm them.
The pharmacy label on your medicine tells you how much medicine you should take. It also tells you how often you should take your medicine. This is the dose that you and your prescriber have agreed you should take. You should not change the dose of your medicine unless you are told to do so by your prescriber.
If you feel that the medicine is making you unwell or you do not think it is working, then talk to your prescriber.
Bondronat Cautions
During treatment with Bondronat your prescriber may advise you to supplement your diet with extra vitamin D and calcium. You must not take foods or drinks such as milk within 30 minutes of taking Bondronat.

Driving and operating machinery:
When taking any medicine you should be aware that it might interfere with your ability to drive or operate machinery safely.
Like all medicinesBondronat can cause side effects. You should see how this medicine affects you and then judge if you are safe to drive or operate machinery. If you are in any doubt, talk to your prescriber.
Family planning and pregnancy:
Most medicines, in some way, can affect the development of a baby in the womb. The effect on the baby differs between medicines and also depends on the stage of pregnancy that you have reached when you take the medicine.
In the case of Bondronat:
do not take this medicine during pregnancy
You should discuss your personal circumstances with your doctor if you are pregnant or want to become pregnant. This is so that together you can make a decision about what treatment you may need during your pregnancy.
You should discuss whether there are any other medicines which you could take during pregnancy which would treat your condition.
Breast-feeding:
Certain medicines can pass into breast milk and may reach your baby through breast-feeding.
In the case of Bondronat:
women who are breast-feeding must not take this medicine
Before you have Bondronat you should discuss breast-feeding with your doctor or midwife. If you wish to breast-feed you should discuss with your prescriber whether there are any other medicines you could take which would also allow you to breast-feed. You should not stop this medicine without taking advice from your doctor.

indigestion
metabolic problems
nausea
oesophageal problems such as oesophagitis or oesophagealulcers - seek medical advice if you get any symptoms of oesophagealirritation such as difficulty swallowing, pain when swallowing, new or worsening heartburn or chest pain
stomachpain
weakness
Uncommon: More than 1 in 1000 people who take Bondronat
abnormal laboratory test results
anaemia
flu or flu-like symptoms
gastrointestinal problems such as bleeding, gastritis, ulcers or dry mouth
general feeling of being unwell
itching

Rare: More than 1 in 10,000 people who take Bondronat
inflammation of the eye
The following side effects have been reported in people who have had medicines similar to Bondronat. The frequency of these side-effects in people who take Bondronat is not known
bone fractures - this may occur if Bondronat is taken for a long period of time. Seek medical advice if you have any symptoms such as thigh, hip or groin pain
osteonecrosis of the jaw - this is usually associated with dental procedures. If you need to have a dental procedure, make sure you tell your dentist that you are having treatment with Bondronat
If you feel unwell or if you have concerns about a side-effect, you will need to seek advice. If you feel very ill, get medical help straight away. Contact your prescriber, pharmacist, nurse.
