This medicine is an immunosuppressant used with other medicines to prevent organ rejection following kidney, liver, or heart transplants. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor

Directions

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. SWALLOW WHOLE. Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing. DO NOT OPEN CAPSULES. If capsules are opened accidentally, do not inhale or touch the powder contained inside the capsules. TAKE THIS MEDICINE ON AN EMPTY STOMACH at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating. DO NOT TAKE ANTACIDS CONTAINING aluminum or magnesium within 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do NOT take 2 doses at once.

Cautions

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT STOP USING THIS MEDICINE OR ANY OTHER ANTI-REJECTION MEDICINES that your doctor has prescribed without first checking with your doctor. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using this medicine. Laboratory and/or medical tests, such as complete blood counts, may be done while you are taking this medicine. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure to the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths. Use a sunscreen with a high SPF or wear protective clothing if you must be outside for a prolonged period. THIS MEDICINE MAY LOWER YOUR RESISTANCE TO INFECTION. Prevent infection by avoiding contact with people with colds or other infections. Do not touch your eyes or the inside of your nose unless you have thoroughly washed your hands first. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. This includes iron products or antacids containing aluminum or magnesium. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE HAVING IMMUNIZATIONS (VACCINATIONS) while you are using this medicine. WHILE YOU ARE USING THIS MEDICINE, brush and floss your teeth carefully. Also, have regular dental check-ups. FOR WOMEN: DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are pregnant. YOU MUST HAVE A NEGATIVE pregnancy test within 1 week before starting this medicine. To prevent pregnancy, use 2 effective forms of birth control before therapy, during therapy, and for 6 weeks after therapy is completed. The effectiveness of oral birth control pills may be decreased when taken with this medicine. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist to determine which forms of effective birth control are right for you. IF YOU SUSPECT THAT YOU COULD BE PREGNANT, contact your doctor immediately. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine.

Side Effects

SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include loss of appetite, mild to moderate stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, weakness, shakiness, or muscle pain. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience skin rash; itching; fever; sore throat; swelling of hands, ankles, or feet; leg pain; frequent urination; blood in urine; unusual bruising or bleeding; swollen glands; unusual lumps or growths; severe vomiting and stomach pain; bloody or black stools; or vomiting blood of material that looks like coffee grounds. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
