What are Generics? A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, how it is taken, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name and works the same way in the body in the same amount of time.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is the generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (e.g. different shape or color), as trademark laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to invent a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name drug and sell it at substantial discounts.

Climara Patches Description

These patches are a form of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), which serve to deliver female hormones to the body through a patch placed on the skin. The hormone in Climara patches is called estradiol, which is about ten times more potent that estrogen. This medication is used to treat a number of conditions, and is also referred to as ‘estrogen therapy’.
This medicine is commonly used to relieve the symptoms associated with menopause, such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, palpitations, mood swings, urinary frequency, and joint pain. If your main concern is vaginal dryness, there are several other products that may be effective at treating this, such as vaginal creams, oral tablets or vaginal rings. It recommended that you try these before using estradiol patches; please consult your doctor if this applies to you.
This therapy may also be used to treat women who are at high risk of osteoporosis (the progressive loss of bone tissue). However, there are other medicines that are safe and effective at preventing and treating this condition, such as raloxifene or bisphosphonate. If osteoporosis is the main condition being treated, these alternative medications should be considered before using estradiol patches. Please consult your doctor if this applies to you.
Estrogen therapy may be prescribed for other medical conditions, as determined by your doctor.

Climara Patches Directions

Take this medication as directed by your doctor. Please read the enclosed information leaflet carefully and contact your doctor with any questions you may have. Do not open the sealed pouch containing the patch until you are ready to use it.
Directions for use:
1. Open the pouch and remove the patch. Peel off the liner. Apply to an area of clean, dry skin on the lower stomach or the top of the buttocks. Do not apply the patch to the breast. Do not apply the patch at or near your waistline, as tight clothing may rub against the patch and it may fall off. Please ensure that sitting down does not loosen the patch on your skin.
2. Press firmly onto your skin for 10 seconds.
3. After one week, you should replace the patch. Remove the patch and fold the sticky sides together. Discard this properly out of reach of children or pets. Apply a new patch every week (or as directed by your doctor). If the area around the patch becomes red, irritated or itchy, try the patch on a new site. If this irritation continues or becomes worse, contact your doctor.
If you forget to change your patch on the scheduled day, then replace your patch as soon as you remember. Do not apply two patches at once.
If your patch falls off accidently, dry your skin and reapply the patch and wear it for the remainder of the 7-day period. If you lose your patch, apply a new patch and wear this for the next 7 days. Resume your new 7-day schedule following this.
