Lescol XL Description

This is a lipid-lowering medication known as a ‘statin’, and is used to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels, whilst raising the good cholesterol (HDL) levels in your blood. It may also be prescribed for people with certain risk factors for cardiovascular disease, in which lipid-lowering therapy will be beneficial in reducing their overall risk. This medicine should be combined with healthy eating and exercise to attain the best results. This is not a cure for high cholesterol, but may help to control it.

Lescol XL Directions

Take Lescol XL as directed by your doctor. Take your dose in the evening or at bedtime. Swallow the tablet whole and do not crush, break or chew it. If you miss a dose, take your missed dose as soon as possible. If it almost time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose and take only your next scheduled dose. Do not take two doses at once.
Store this medicine at room temperature (77 degrees F or 25 degrees C) in a tightly close container away from heat, light or moisture. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted.

Take Lescol XL as directed by your doctor. Do not exceed your dose or stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor. It may take several weeks for this medicine to work.
This type of medication class (statins) interacts with many different medicines which may alter its effects or cause harmful side effects. Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking any new prescribed or over-the-counter medication, including St John’s wort or herbal remedies.
Keep all of your doctor and laboratory appointments while taking this medication, as your doctor may wish to monitor your progress with certain tests.
Before you undergo surgery, advise your doctor you are taking this statin medication. Avoid excessive alcohol as this may interact with this medicine.
Do not use this product if you are pregnant or wish to become pregnant. Contact your doctor immediately if you suspect you may be pregnant. Avoid breastfeeding while using this medicine because it is excreted into breast milk.

Lescol XL Side Effects

Some minor side effects that may occur include: indigestion, dizziness or trouble sleeping. If these continue or are bothersome, see your doctor.
Contact your doctor as soon as possible if you experience: yellow skin or eyes; unusual bleeding or bruising; sore throat; muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if associated with fever and a general feeling of discomfort; or rash.
Please be aware of the following signs of drug toxicity and seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of them. Symptoms include: difficulty swallowing or breathing; hoarseness; or swelling of hands, face, lips, eyes, throat, or tongue.
