Lovaza Description

Lovaza is a medicine designed for patients who have very high triglyceride levels. Having elevated triglyceride levels increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. Some patients have a genetic predisposition for high triglyceride levels, and this may have been detected at a young age. Other causes for high triglyceride levels are due to a high dietary intake of fats. Lovaza contains esterified fish oils, which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids that aid in lowering triglyceride levels.
This medicine is designed to be used in conjunction with a low-fat diet to attain the best results.

Lovaza Directions

Please take Lovaza as directed by your doctor. An additional patient information leaflet is available on request. You may take this medicine with food if it upsets your stomach. It is recommended that you take this medicine regularly to achieve the maximum benefit. Taking your capsule at the same time daily will ensure you remember your doses. If you do miss a dose, take your capsule as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip your missed dose and continue with your next scheduled dose.
Please store this medicine in a tightly closed container at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C), away from heat, moisture and light. Brief storage at 59 – 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) is permitted. Do not store this medicine in the bathroom and do not freeze.

Lovaza Cautions

Do not take this medicine if you’ve had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any of the ingredients in this product. If you have a sensitivity or allergy to fish, please speak to your doctor or pharmacist before you use this product.
Before using any new prescription or over-the-counter medication, consult with your pharmacist or doctor and report all your current medications. Please check with your doctor if you wish to consume alcohol, as this may alter the effects of Lovaza.
Please keep all of your doctor and laboratory appointments while taking this medication. It is important to monitor your progress and your doctor may order tests to determine this, e.g. blood cholesterol and liver function.
Before having any emergency care, dental treatments, surgery or medical procedures, advise the staff you are taking Lovaza.
If you wish to become pregnant, discuss the risks of benefits of using Lovaza. It is not known if Lovaza is excreted in breast milk, therefore it is recommended that you consult with your doctor before breastfeeding your baby.

Lovaza Side Effects

There are some side effects that may occur while taking this medicine; these include: back pain, burping, flu-like symptoms (e.g., fever, headache, muscle aches, or tiredness), taste changes, or upset stomach. If any of these are of concern to you, please consult with your doctor.
Please contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following: signs of infection (e.g., fever, chills, or persistent sore throat); sudden severe headache, vomiting, dizziness, or fainting; chest pain; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; sudden shortness of breath; changes in vision; numbness of an arm or leg; or severe stomach pain.
An allergic reaction to Lovaza is unlikely; however seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue.
