Lupron Depot is a prescription only medication that is administered via an injection. It contains a drug called Leuprolide, which blocks the actions of Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) in the brain. This leads to decreased levels of certain reproductive hormones in your body, such as estrogen and testosterone.
This medication is used to treat medical conditions that are responsive to the hormone estrogen, such as endometriosis, prostate cancer and breast cancer. This medication will reduce the circulating levels of estrogen and improve these conditions.
Lupron or Leuprolide Depot may be prescribed for other medical conditions, as determined by your doctor.

Lupron Depot Directions

This medicine is administered as an injection at your doctor’s office.

Lupron Depot Cautions

Please ensure that you attend all of your doctor appointments. Do not miss any doses because this will reduce the effectiveness of the medicine.
Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant. If you suspect that you could you be pregnant, contact your doctor immediately. Do not breast feed whilst on this medicine.
For women of childbearing age, this medicine will stop your monthly period. If you experience your period or any vaginal bleeding, contact your doctor. Even in the absence of monthly periods, you may still become pregnant while taking this medicine.
In addition, the birth control bill (oral contraceptive pill) may no longer be effective and may not prevent unplanned pregnancy. Please use an alternative form of contraception while you are using this medicine. Consult your doctor if you have any questions regarding this.

Lupron Depot Side Effects

Patients may experience side effects, which include: mood changes; decreased desire for sex; acne; muscle pain or weakness; hot flashes or sweating; headaches; nausea or vomiting; or changes in breast size. If these are severe or distressing for you, please consult with your doctor.
Contact your doctor as soon as possible if you experience swelling of the ankles or hands; joint pain; dizziness; continued vaginal bleeding; or weight gain or loss.
