Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment is a nitrate used for preventing chronic chest pain caused by heart disease. It also may be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Nitro-Bid Directions

Follow the directions for taking Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment provided by your doctor. NITRO-BID 2% OINTMENT COMES WITH an additional patient leaflet. Read it carefully and reread it each time you get Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment refilled. NITRO-BID 2% OINTMENT IS FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY. WASH HANDS before and after applying. APPLY USING THE APPLICATOR. Place the applicator on a flat surface with the printed side down. Squeeze the prescribed amount of ointment from the tube onto the applicator. Place the applicator on the skin with the ointment side down on the desired area of skin. Using the applicator, spread the ointment in a thin, uniform layer. COVER THE AREA with plastic wrap held in place with adhesive tape. Remove the plastic wrap from the old dose when you apply a new dose. NITRO-BID 2% OINTMENT LASTS FOR ABOUT 6 HOURS. DO NOT USE MORE OF NITRO-BID 2% OINTMENT THAN PRESCRIBED. It is important to have a "nitrate-free" period of time for 10 to 12 hours each day for Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment to continue to work well and to decrease the risk of physical dependence. STORE NITRO-BID 2% OINTMENT at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. IF YOU MISS A DOSE of Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.

Nitro-Bid Cautions

DO NOT USE NITRO-BID 2% OINTMENT IF you are allergic to any ingredient in Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment. WHEN USED FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment may not work as well. Increasing the dose is not effective in managing tolerance to Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment. Talk with your doctor if Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment stops working well. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or take Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment for longer than prescribed. Exceeding the recommended dose or taking Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment for longer than prescribed may be habit-forming. DO NOT SUDDENLY STOP USING NITRO-BID 2% OINTMENT without first checking with your doctor. If you suddenly stop using Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment you may get withdrawal symptoms (eg, chest pain, heart attack, sudden death). Be sure to have a "nitrate-free" period each day to help prevent tolerance, dependence, and withdrawal. LAB TESTS, including heart function, blood pressure, and blood electrolyte levels, may be performed while you use Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment. These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments. NITRO-BID 2% OINTMENT MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS, LIGHTHEADEDNESS, OR BLURRED VISION. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE YOU DRINK ALCOHOL while you are taking Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment. Drinking alcohol may increase the risk of low blood pressure with Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment. NITRO-BID 2% OINTMENT MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS, LIGHTHEADEDNESS, OR FAINTING. Sit down while taking Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment to avoid falling caused by lightheadedness or dizziness. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR RIGHT AWAY IF YOU DEVELOP slow heartbeat or new or worsening chest pain after you take Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment. TELL YOUR DOCTOR OR DENTIST THAT YOU TAKE NITRO-BID 2% OINTMENT before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery. NITRO-BID 2% OINTMENT MAY GIVE YOU DAILY HEADACHES. This should become less noticeable with time. OTHER DOSAGE FORMS OF NITRO-BID 2% OINTMENT (eg, sublingual, or under the tongue, tablets) may not work as well while you are taking Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment. NITRO-BID 2% OINTMENT TAKES ABOUT 1 TO 2 HOURS TO START WORKING and should not be used for a sudden chest pain attack. NITRO-BID 2% OINTMENT MAY STAIN clothing. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINES, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. Use Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment with caution in the ELDERLY; they may be more sensitive to its effects. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU BECOME PREGNANT, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment while you are pregnant. IT IS NOT KNOWN IF NITRO-BID 2% OINTMENT IS FOUND in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.

Nitro-Bid Side Effects

SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment include dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting when sitting up or standing; flushing of face and neck; headache; nausea; or vomiting. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience blurred vision; dry mouth; fainting; flushing; heavy sweating; irregular heartbeat; new or worsening chest pain; pale skin; pounding in the chest; rapid heartbeat; severe dizziness or headache; severe or persistent nausea or vomiting; shortness of breath; slow heartbeat; swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet; or unusual weakness. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Nitro-Bid 2% Ointment is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue.
