Tekturna Description

Tekturna is a medicine classed as a ‘renin inhibitor’ and is used to treat high blood pressure. It is a relatively new medicine, and works by acting on the cells of the kidney to block the formation of chemicals that increase blood pressure.

This medicine may be taken with food or on an empty stomach. Taking this medicine with foods high in fat may result in reduced effectiveness of the drug. Whether you take Tekturna with food or without food, ensure that you take your medicine in the same manner every time. In other words, you must take this medicine with food every time or without food every time. Regular use of this medicine is associated with the most benefits.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is nearly time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose and take only your next scheduled dose. Do not take two doses at once.
Store this medicine at room temperature in a tightly-closed container away from heat, moisture, and light. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted.

Tekturna Cautions

Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to Aliskiren or any ingredients used in this product.
Keep to your doctor and laboratory appointments while you are taking Tekturna, as your doctor may wish to monitor your progress and check your blood pressure or kidney function. Please contact your doctor or pharmacist before using any new over-the-counter or prescription medicine. Check with your doctor before using a salt substitute or potassium supplements.
Before undergoing any medical procedure, surgery, dental procedure or emergency care, advise medical staff you are taking this medicine.
As this is a blood pressure lowering medicine, you may experience dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting. Please avoid driving, operating machinery or other similar activities until you know it is safe to do so. If you experience fainting, ensure that you stand up slowly and do not change position quickly. These symptoms may be exacerbated by dehydration, excessive sweating, vomiting or diarrhea. If you experience fainting, advise your doctor of this.
For women of child bearing age, please avoid becoming pregnant whilst using this medicine. Tekturna is known to cause fetal birth defects or fetal death. Do not breastfeed while using this medicine.
Angioedema is a rare but serious complication that may occur while using this medicine. Symptoms of this include: swelling of the hands, face, lips, eyes, throat, or tongue; difficulty swallowing or breathing; or unexplained hoarseness. Seek immediate medical attention if this occurs.

Tekturna Side Effects

A common side effect associated with this medicine is mild diarrhea. This usually subsides with treatment. If you continue to experience this or have severe symptoms, contact your doctor.
Contact your doctor immediately if you experience swelling of hands, legs, face, lips, eyes, throat, tongue, or trunk; difficulty swallowing or breathing; severe dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting; or unexplained hoarseness. Seek immediate medical attention if this occurs.
Although an allergic reaction to this medicine is unlikely, seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.
