Vivelle-Dot Description
Vivelle-Dot is used in the treatment of menopause symptoms such as vaginal dryness/discomfort, hot flashes, or to prevent bone loss in those at high risk. This is a form of medication known as a female hormone and is most often given to women who no longer produce the correct amount. There may be other conditions where Vivelle-Dot is a good choice of medication for you and so do not be surprised if your doctor prescribes you this medication for another condition. However you can expect a full explanation for why he or she has done so.
Vivelle-Dot Directions
As is the case with all drugs, it is vital that you carefully follow the instructions given to you by your doctor. In most cases this will be written on the label of the medicine bottle or box and you must read this information very carefully. If you do happen to have any questions about how to take this medicine then you should talk to your pharmacist, nurse or doctor and they will be happy to help you. This patch is most often replaced twice a week, or as prescribed by your doctor. You must not open the sealed pouch that contains the patch until you are ready to use it. When you are ready to use the pouch you should tear it open and remove the patch from the protective liner. You must apply the patch to a dry, clean and hairless area of the body as described in the patient information leaflet. You must avoid placing the patch on an area of skin that is irritated, oily, or injured. Ensure that you do not place the patch on the breast. You must not place the patch on the waistline as clothing that is tight may remove the patch from the skin. Also you must not place the patch in an area of the skin that is exposed to sunlight. You should contact your doctor if you have any queries regarding where you are able to place the patch. When applying the patch you must place it on the skin for about ten seconds to ensure that it stays on. When the time comes to change the patch you should remove it slowly, fold it in half with the sticky sides together and dispose of it as directed. You must then apply a new patch to a different area of the skin in order to ensure that no skin irritation occurs. You should rotate the areas where the patch sits, ensuring that there is at least a week in between placing it in the same area. If there is irritation around the patch then change it to another area, or if it becomes worse then contact your doctor immediately. Swimming, bathing, or showering will not affect the patch.
Where you keep the medicine is very important and in this case it must be stored at room temperature (77 degrees F) away from the sun and in the bottle or box provided or in an airtight container. Failure to take your medicine as directed will likely result in the worsening of your symptoms. In the unfortunate scenario that you do forget to take a dose, you must take the missed dose as soon as you remember unless this is near the time of your next dose. In this case you should just forget about the missed dose and carry on with your normal schedule, as you must never take two doses of a single medication at the same time. If you have any concerns then you should contact your pharmacist, nurse or doctor for more information.
