What are Generics? A generic
drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality,
how it is taken, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available
on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients
as the brand-name and works the same way in the body in the same amount of time.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is the generics
are less expensive and may look slightly different (e.g. different shape or color),
as trademark laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large
sums of money to invent a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies
can manufacture a copy of the brand-name drug and sell it at substantial discounts.
Zomig Nasal Description
This medication is a "triptan"-type drug used to treat migraine headache attacks. It does not prevent migraine headaches from occurring and should not be used for other types of headaches
Zomig Nasal Directions
The usual dose is one spray into one nostril as the headache occurs. Each spray device contains a single dose. To administer correctly, blow your nose gently before using this medication. Remove the protective cap, and block one nostril by pressing firmly on the side of your nose. Place the spray device into the other nostril and breathe in gently as you press the plunger on the spray device. Avoid spraying the drug into your eyes. Keep your head tilted slightly back, remove the tip from your nose, and breathe gently through your mouth for 5 to 10 seconds. You may feel liquid in your nose or the back of your throat. This is normal. If the headache returns, a second spray may be used anytime after at least two hours pass from the first dose if so directed by your doctor. If you have no relief with the first dose, do not take a second dose without consulting your doctor. Use of more than 10 mg (two doses) in one day is not recommended. Follow your doctor and pharmacist directions exactly. Read the Patient Information Leaflet available from your pharmacist. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist. If you have never taken this medication before and you have risk factors for heart disease (see Precautions), you may be advised to take the very first dose in your doctor's office in order to monitor for rare but serious heart problems (e.g., heart attack).
