What are generics?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, how it is taken, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name and works the same way in the body in the same amount of time.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is the generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (e.g. different shape or color), as trademark laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to invent a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name drug and sell it at substantial discounts.

Patanol Eye Drops Description

This medicine is a prescription eye drop used to treat the symptoms associated with seasonal allergies, such as red, itchy, or watery eyes. The active ingredient is anti-histamine called Olopatadine.
This medicine may also be used to treat allergic conjunctivitis.

Patanol Eye Drops Directions

Take this medicine as directed by your doctor. These drops are for use in the eye only. If you are a contact lens wearer, remove these before placing the drop into your eye.
Directions for use:
1. Wash your hands before handling the medicine
2. Tilt your head back and use your index finger to gently pull the lower eyelid away from the eye, to create a small pouch.
3. Hold the applicator above your eye and gently squeeze one drop of medicine into the pouch. Slowly close your eyes. It is important that you do not touch the applicator tip to your eye, as this may contaminate the medicine.
4. Remove any excess medicine around the eye area with a clean tissue, being careful not to touch your eye.
5. Wash your hands after use.
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as possible. If it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and apply only your next scheduled dosage. Do not apply two doses at once.
Store this medicine at room temperature away from heat and light. Keep the bottle closed at all times and ensure that the applicator tip does not come in contact with any surface, including your eye.

Patanol Eye Drops Cautions

Do not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to it, or are allergic to any ingredients used in this product.
This product should only be used for the period prescribed by your doctor. Do not exceed your dosage. Once the bottle has been opened, the chemicals in this medicine react with air and become less effective. This is the reason eye drops have a short expiration period. Ensure that you discard the medicine by the expiration date.
If you wear contact lenses, make sure to remove these before using these drops. Wait at least 10 minutes after using this medicine to wear contact lenses. If your eye(s) are irritated or red, it is strongly recommended that you avoid wearing contact lenses.
Patanol Eye or Olopatadine Drops should not be used to treat eye irritation due to contact lens wear. Please consult your doctor if you have concerns regarding this.
For women who are pregnant, or wish to become pregnant, please consult with your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine. It is not known if this medicine is excreted into breast milk, therefore it is advised that you check with your doctor or pharmacist before breast feeding your baby.
