Hexachlorophene Information

HEXACHLOROPHENE (hex a KLOR oh feen) is used as a skin cleanser. This medicine is also used as a surgical hand scrub and to cleanse the skin before surgery.

This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.

They need to know if you have any of these conditions: -large areas of burned or damaged skin -skin conditions or sensitivity -an unusual or allergic reaction to hexachlorophene, halogenated phenol derivatives, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives -pregnant or trying to get pregnant -breast-feeding

This medicine is for external use only. Do not take by mouth. Keep out of eyes, ears and mouth. Follow the directions on the label or those given to you by your doctor or health care professional. Do not use your medicine more often than directed. Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. While this medicine may be used for children for selected conditions, precautions do apply. This medicine is not for regular use on infants.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once. NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.

This does not apply; this medicine is not for regular use. Do not use double or extra doses.

Do not use any other skin products on the same area of skin without asking your doctor or health care professional.

This medicine can make you more sensitive to the sun. Keep out of the sun. If you cannot avoid being in the sun, wear protective clothing and use sunscreen. Do not use sun lamps or tanning beds/booths. Do not get this medicine in your eyes. If you do, rinse out with plenty of cool tap water. This medicine can make certain skin conditions worse. Only use it for conditions for which your doctor or health care professional has prescribed.

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible: -allergic reactions like skin rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (Report these to your doctor or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome.): -skin irritation like redness, itching, or stinging

Keep out of the reach of children. Store at room temperature up to 25 degrees C (77 degrees F). Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
