Xifaxan is a non-absorbable antibiotic that acts locally in the intestines to fight specific bacterial infections. Unlike many antibiotics, it passes through the digestive tract without entering the bloodstream, making it ideal for gastrointestinal conditions. It is not effective for infections in other areas of the body.
Xifaxan is commonly used for:
Traveler’s Diarrhea: Caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli) in adults and children ≥12 years.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea (IBS-D): For adults experiencing chronic diarrhea-predominant IBS.
Hepatic Encephalopathy: To reduce the recurrence of brain function decline due to liver failure by reducing levels of toxin-producing bacteria in the gut.
It may also be prescribed for other conditions as determined by your healthcare provider.
To comply with Canadian International Pharmacy Association regulations you are permitted to order a 3-month supply or the closest package size available based on your personal prescription. read more
Dosage information and scheduling should be provided by the prescribing healthcare provider. While your individual recommendation may vary, many dosing schedules are similar to those recommended by the manufacturer:

For Traveler’s Diarrhea: 200 mg taken three times a day for 3 days.
For Hepatic Encephalopathy: 550 mg taken twice a day. Daily use is recommended long-term for the prevention of symptoms.
