This medication may cause changes in your blood sugar. You should know the symptoms of low and high blood sugar and what to do if you have these symptoms.
Tolbutamide may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
- upper abdominal fullness
- changes in taste
Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of these symptoms, call your doctor immediately:
- yellowing of the skin or eyes
- light-colored stools
- dark urine
- pain in the upper right part of the stomach
- unusual bruising or bleeding
- sore throat
Tolbutamide may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication.
In one study, people who took tolbutamide to treat their diabetes were more likely to die of heart problems than people who were treated with insulin and diet changes. Talk to your doctor about the risks of taking tolbutamide.
