Macrobid is used to:
Treat uncomplicated urinary tract infections (e.g., lower urinary tract infections or bladder infections). Infections involving the kidney(s) are considered ‘complicated’ and often require additional care with alternative treatments.
Prevent recurring urinary tract infections when prescribed for long-term use.
Treat infections in other areas caused by susceptible bacteria at the healthcare provider’s discretion.
Do Not Take Macrobid If You:
Have severe kidney disease.
Have a history of jaundice or liver problems caused by nitrofurantoin.

Nitrofurantoin passes into breast milk and may harm a nursing infant. Do not breastfeed an infant under one month of age while taking Macrobid.
