12 Months of Giving: Habitat for Humanity International

Planet Drugs Direct, a trusted Canadian online pharmacy, ships low-cost prescription and nonprescription drugs worldwide. As part of the company’s philosophy of giving back to worthwhile causes, the pharmacy decided to raise funds for a different charity each month in its “12 Months of Giving” campaign. The latest recipient of the company’s fundraising efforts is Habitat for Humanity International, the world’s most visible charity that addresses the issues of poverty and having adequate housing.

Habitat for Humanity Benefits from Planet Drug Direct’s Volunteerism

Unlike some cause marketing efforts where companies donate percentages of sales, Planet Drug Direct encourages its staff to collect directly for a different charity each month, which keeps prices for drugs affordable. The staff not only gives money but also volunteers its member’s time and fundraising skills. This kind of hands-on volunteerism is rewarding in many ways, and the winning team receives a movie day to relax, eat popcorn and watch a movie of their choice.

Teams are assigned based on office supervisors, and a competitive spirit often inspires team members to service beyond usual office fundraisers. Habitat for Humanity began at Koinonia Farm, an interracial Christian church outside of Americus, Georgia, in the United States. The charity is big on volunteerism, and people pitch in to build homes for needy people in 16 countries in North America, Latin America and the Caribbean.

  • Building materials are financed with a revolving fund called “The Fund for Humanity.”
  • Habitat doesn’t give homes to clients but sells them at cost.
  • U.S. homeowners buy their homes in affordable monthly installments.
  • Habitat often partners with other organizations to reach more families outside the United States.
  • In addition to building homes, Habitat for Humanity also renovates buildings, revitalizes neighborhoods and repairs homes.
  • Owners or buyers put in hundreds of hours building their own homes to strengthen their investments and sense of ownership.
  • Former President Jimmy Carter was a major supporter and volunteer at the organization since its inception.

Planet Drugs Direct Gives Back

Planet Drugs Direct believes that people have a right to affordable medication from a reliable provider that doesn’t cut corners. As a member of the Canadian International Pharmacy Association or CIPA, the company must meet more exacting standards that other online pharmacies. When customers compare Planet Drugs Direct prices with other CIPA pharmacies, it becomes obvious that customers can get the best prices at Planet Drugs Direct.

That’s why the company chooses a volunteer-style of charitable giving. The “12 Months of Giving” resolution allows supporters on the staff to accelerate their efforts for their favorite charities. Some of this year’s choices include the Boys and Girls Club of America, United Way Worldwide, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and The Alzheimer’s Association.

Habitat for Humanity International has developed a reputation as one of the most respected charitable causes in the world since its organization in 1976. Using volunteer labor and donations to build and repair homes, the charity reflects many of the principles that Planet Drugs Direct supports in its own charitable efforts.

Update:

We were able to fundraise $624.42 for Habitat for Humanity International! Thank you to all our staff members for their generous contributions! Stay tuned for next month’s fundraiser!
